A former Hartlepool Sixth Form student has joined the army of key workers in the fight against COVID-19.
Annie Hamilton, who studied A-Levels in English and sociology, is working as a care assistant over the summer to help the elderly and vulnerable.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the teenager wanted to step up for her local community and is giving up her spare time to wash clothes and bedding, collect medical supplies and food, as well as offering other support and care.
“Becoming a key worker was something I wanted to do to help others in this unprecedented situation,” said Annie. “It makes me feel good that I am helping others and that my spare time could be put to good use.
“I’ve found this experience very enlightening as prior to this job I had to complete a health and social care course in which I learned about how various conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes and mental health conditions and how they can impact a person and how each individual needs a person–centred approach.“
Annie is currently awaiting her A-Level results and has described the past two years at Hartlepool Sixth Form as ‘engaging and inspiring.’
She adds: “I have finished my courses now and will receive my results in the late summer. I’m hoping to study primary teaching at Liverpool Hope University.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hartlepool Sixth Form. The teachers were very supportive and motivated me to do my best. I liked the atmosphere and environment and made some great friends too.”
