Hartlepool Sixth Form students visited Teesside University to experience life as an elite athlete studying higher education.
The sixth form’s TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) students and those studying on the Sport and Exercise Science programme spent the day in Middlesbrough learning how undergraduates benefit from the support and expertise on offer through Teesside Sport.
On a tour of the campus and the Olympia building, the group was given the chance to view the top-quality sports facilities available, including physiological and bio-mechanical assessments, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and sports psychology.
Ian Hewitt, Sport lecturer, said: “Teesside have an excellent reputation for sport and supporting their elite athletes. It was fantastic for our students to experience the day in a life of a Teesside University student.”
The TASS programme, a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, education institutions and national governing bodies of sport who work together to bring the best out of the country’s most exciting young talents.
The scholarship helps athletes in education – aged 16-plus – to get the very best from their sporting and academic careers without having to choose between the two and the Sixth Form is one of a limited number of providers in the North East associated with the scheme
