Hartlepool Sixth Form sport lecturer Danielle Smith has clocked up an amazing 150k throughout June to raise vital funds for Alice House Hospice.
No matter the weather Danielle and best friend Chloe McKie, a former student at the Sixth Form, ran a combined 10k each day to reach their target – the equivalent of running seven Great North Runs each.
With the hospice expecting to lose £30,000 following the cancellation of September’s event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Danielle and Chloe stepped up to support a cause which is very close to their hearts.
Setting an initial fundraising target of £300 – £1 per km – Danielle and Chloe have raised an incredible £1,700 so far via their JustGiving page.
Danielle, who also coaches the Sixth Form’s netball academy, said: “I am totally overwhelmed by the response we have had.
“I cannot thank people enough for their generous donations and the support they have given us from start to finish. We miss our aunties so much and wanted to show our gratitude to Alice House and the impact it has on people’s lives.
“Raising £1,700 is absolutely amazing and the support from both friends and family has been phenomenal and it has definitely kept us going.
“The whole experience has been brilliant and very challenging but I am so glad we did it.”
Greg Hildreth, Alice House Deputy Fundraising Manager, said: “Support like this is so valuable to the Hospice, especially during a time when most of our regular fundraising activities are either on hold or quite restricted.
“On behalf of everyone at Alice House, I would like to thank them both along with all of their generous sponsors.”
