Students have been encouraged to think about their future plans during an action-packed week of career focused activities.
Sunderland College, Northumberland College and Hartlepool Sixth Form students were inspired and engaged through a series of seminars, careers roadshows and interactive workshops.
Some of the North East’s biggest employers including Northumbrian Water, Esh Group, Liebherr Sunderland, ENGIE, BGL Group, Keepmoat Homes and Kier Specialist Services discussed the varied jobs in their sectors, the skills and qualities they look for in applicants and the importance of Maths and English as well as the importance of development opportunities.
At Northumberland College’s Ashington and Kirkley Hall campuses, employers such as Akzo Nobel, Jet2, Northumbria Police, Mercedes Benz and the Royal Navy talked to students about what the future may hold at a special careers’ fayres.
The college’s Student Experience Team also delivered careers drop in sessions across all campuses, with staff sharing their career journeys and skills they have picked up along the way while offering advice and guidance to students.
A highlight of the week was the college’s Extended Leadership Team pledging to increase its campus-wide activities to help more students with SEND gain employability skills and work experience to raise their aspirations, inspire confidence and develop their understanding of the world of work.
