Hundreds of students from across regional college group Education Partnership North East will unite to take on an inspirational and inclusive fundraising challenge.
The students, from Hartlepool Sixth Form, Sunderland College and Northumberland College’s wide range of courses, will take on the week-long British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) Challenge to raise funds and awareness of young adult mental health and wellbeing.
Coinciding with EPNE’s Health and Wellbeing Roadshow between 27 February and 3 March, the colleges will work as a team to complete a total of 2,023 miles by walking, running, cycling or rowing across campuses and beyond.
Each college will be given target miles to achieve within the week, with students and staff taking part encouraged to raise £1 for each mile their classes complete which will then be donated to BRIT and Washington Mind. Additional fundraising activities will also be held during the week.
John Rushworth, Executive Director for Sports, Public Services & Wellbeing, said “We are delighted that students across all our EPNE campuses will take part in the annual BRIT Challenge ‘feelgood fundraiser’ to raise awareness for mental health, fitness and wellbeing.
“Improving and supporting the mental health of our students is always a priority and the BRIT challenge is a great way of achieving this whilst also contributing to vital fundraising for charity.”
The BRIT Challenge supports young adult mental health and fitness through an annual challenge with universities, colleges and Students’ Unions invited to hold their own inclusive and feel-good fundraising events.
Designed to be completed by individuals working as a team to cover each year’s distance, the challenge embraces any activity that promotes health, fitness and wellbeing and supports students and staff of all abilities.
Each EPNE college will be celebrating their achievements and progress on their social media channels throughout the week.
