Wanting to work in the medical profession from leaving school, Abbie studied Health & Social Care as it was the best route into the medical profession. She is currently working as a Staff Nurse at Sunderland Royal Hospital after gaining a BSc in Adult Nursing.
BTEC Health & Social Care.
Since leaving school I have always wanted to work in the medical profession and after attending an open evening I was advised the best way to get into nursing would be through doing a BTEC in Health & Social Care.
The sixth form’s good reviews, extremely friendly staff and some of my family were former students and achieved good grades.
The different ways which we were assessed, it was not always exam based. Your grades were built up through assessments and placements.
You could go to any teacher that you had and discuss any issues or difficulties you were facing. They would help in any way they could.
The placements. They helped me build my confidence to attend new settings and work with new people, which happens regularly in nursing training.
Mandy, one of my tutors, was previously a nurse and spoke highly of the job. Also, every tutor encouraged everyone to strive for the best possible outcome.
Do not leave your work to the last minute.
Make sure you do your assignments well before the due date, you achieve much better results.
Happy, educational and beneficial.
I have been a Head and Neck Staff Nurse at Sunderland Royal Hospital for three years after studying a BSc in Adult Nursing.
Studying at Hartlepool Sixth Form provided me with the ability to write assignments to a professional and university standard. Placements helped build my confidence to attend a new setting and work with new people, which happened regularly in nursing training.
