Students at Hartlepool Sixth Form discovered their hard work had been worth it after receiving the results of their vocational qualifications, enabling them to take their next steps to becoming key workers of the future and support the economic recovery.
The students studied a range of vocational qualifications in areas of key strategic importance such as business, applied science, health, education and digital.
Mia Mottram, 18, from Hartlepool discovered she had achieved triple distinction in her Level 3 Extended Diploma Children’s Play, Learning and Development qualification. She is heading to Durham University to study primary education. She said:
“I was really pleased with my results and did better than expected. I’ve always wanted to work with children as every day is different. As part of my course I had placements in primary schools and a nursery. It was useful in teaching me how to communicate with children. The teaching staff at Hartlepool Sixth Form are lovely and went out of their way to help me and make sure I was doing well. I chose a vocational course as it’s the best of both worlds with coursework and exams.”
Vocational qualifications such as BTECs are specialist work-related qualifications that provide students with the skills, practical understanding and knowledge to prepare students for further study, training and employment.
Mark Hughes, Head of Hartlepool Sixth Form, said:
“We are delighted with the outstanding achievements of our vocational students. We have recently invested in state-of-the-art facilities for the sixth form such as our new health ward and digital academy to ensure we produce students that are career ready.
“We have had some outstanding successes for our vocational qualifications this year. It is testament to the hard work of both staff and students in such a challenging year and I’m extremely proud of them. I wish our students every success in their future careers and I am confident that they will achieve great things with the practical skills and knowledge that they have gained throughout their course.”
Hartlepool Sixth Form offers a wide selection of vocational qualifications alongside its extensive range of A-Levels. These vocational qualifications can be taken as a full subject course or can be mixed with A-Levels to form a bespoke career-focused programme of study to support progression to positive destinations.
